After six intense days of safaris in Tanzania, two nights at Mvuvi Boutique Resort were the pampering I needed. A boutique hotel opened in 2007 when a couple from Italy irretrievably fell in love with Zanzibar.
So, Mvuvi Boutique Resort has a beautiful story behind it and two passionate people who have dedicated their time to make this place an extraordinary one.
I could describe the experience at Mvuvi Boutique Resort in just a few words, and these would be pleasant days of peace, relaxation, and beautiful views.

Staying at Mvuvi Boutique Resort
in Kiwengwa, Zanzibar
Where is Mvuvi Boutique Resort located and how to get there
The most popular places to visit in Zanzibar are the South-East and North-West, namely Paje and Nungwi. But not many people know about Kiwengwa, a beautiful but secluded beach with white sand and palm trees located in the northeast of the island.
Here is Mvuvi Boutique Resort, the ideal place for those who want a quieter vacation, in the middle of the dreamy landscapes of Zanzibar.
Whether you arrive in Zanzibar by ferry or plane, the distance to Mvuvi Boutique Resort is about an hour. Taxis are everywhere, so it won’t be hard to find a car available, and the price for this distance is around $ 50. Yes, I know taxis are pretty expensive in Zanzibar, but the advantage is that the cars are big and spacious. On the other hand, if you want, the hotel can arrange a shuttle for you.
Mvuvi Boutique Resort is right on the beach, but the car can drop you off right at the back entrance, where the employees will pick up your luggage and where you will start your stay at this beautiful accommodation.
There are several other hotels, restaurants, and lovely shops in the area, like those in the image below, where you can find many souvenirs. The locals in Zanzibar are mega-talented, and I especially recommend their beautiful paintings. I bought two, and I’m fascinated!

Rooms at Mvuvi Boutique Resort
The hotel has eight rooms, all decorated in Swahili style that characterize the entire island. A must-have in Zanzibar and something you’ll find at Mvuvi is the mosquito net. Talking about the decoration, I love the wood and accents of color.
We stayed in the standard room, located on the ground floor, overlooking the garden and the pool. But the other options include deluxe, comfort, and superior. Some are located upstairs and have a very nice swing, and the comfort one even has an ocean view.
The rooms are spacious, airy and give you the feeling of coziness. There is enough space for luggage storage and a sofa to relax on after a day full of activities on Spice Island.
You will find in the rooms everything you need, from a hairdryer, safe for storing valuables, to Wifi and air conditioning.
The bathroom is huge and well lit, which I am sure any lady will benefit from. A spacious beach bag is waiting for you in the room, as well as a brochure where you can find all the popular activities you can do in Zanzibar. The road from the rooms to the beach is only a few meters.

Hotel facilities
- Pool
As I said, right in front of the rooms there is a pool not very big, but charming and welcoming. The pool is perfect for moments when you want to stay in the water, but it is reflux on the eastern side of Zanzibar. And that happens every day.
- Breakfast area
Mvuvi Restaurant is located in front of the hotel. It is beautifully decorated and has a great view of the Indian Ocean.
The food is delicious and the breakfast quite plentiful. In addition to fresh fruit and coffee, you can opt for omelets, pancakes, pastries, and more. The images below speak for themselves. I particularly liked the pancakes with jam.
- Beachside bar & restaurant area
For the rest of the day, between 12 and 10 pm, you can dine on the other side of the restaurant. I had lunch and dinner here, and I can say that the food was above expectations, and the view was just right. The terrace is located right on the beach, and you can listen to the sound of the waves while you enjoy dishes from Swahili and Mediterranean cuisine.
My favorites were pasta, Fish Curry, and the ice cream with a great name: I scream on the beach. You can take a look here at the entire menu of the restaurant.
- The beach
Mvuvi Boutique Resort has a private beach with many sun loungers with green pillows, some under the open sky and others protected by several stone pavilions. You can sunbathe here without any problems, mainly since a security guard constantly supervises the hotel.
The fine sand, hibiscus flowers, palm trees, and blue waves of the Indian Ocean are the perfect ingredients for a day spent on the beach at Mvuvi.
The two nights and two days at Mvuvi Boutique Resort were a perfect start to the two weeks I spent in Zanzibar. I needed a less touristy and more secluded place to recharge my batteries for the tours and activities I would do on the island.
By the way, the hotel can arrange these activities for you. Among the most popular things not to miss in Zanzibar are:
- safari blue
- Prison Island
- tour on a spice farm
- Jozani Forest
- Stone Town
- Nungwi Aquarium
Final thoughts and conclusions
Overall, I really enjoyed this experience. The things I liked the most at Mvuvi Boutique Resort and for which I recommend it are:
- the peace you have here, being a less touristy place in Zanzibar
- the fact that you are incredibly close to the beach, basically on the beach
- delicious and very varied food
- the hotel decor
- the fact that there is a swimming pool located right next to the rooms
- spacious rooms, equipped with everything you need
- the custom beach bag, a necessary bonus
- the style of the restaurant
